This update has been a long time in coming, but we are proud to announce that today we ordered the circuit board assemblies for our first production run of Lubrichecks! Although the numerous internal parts are being ordered in the next day or two, we will not have a firm ship date for another week or more. As it stands now, we are pushing our vendors as hard as we can to be ready to ship the completed units in early September. (We must wait for confirmation of delivery from several electronic components suppliers. Some of the electronic components can have lead times of several weeks).

We realize that many of you have become very frustrated and disappointed that we have dramatically overshot our original delivery estimates. We more than share your frustration. We could have shipped long ago, if we were not concerned about the accuracy and scientific validity of the Lubricheck. Be assured we have had our share of challenges completing this phase with the resources at our disposal. Please know we have done the best we could under the circumstances.

We will issue another update when we have a realistic ship date. To help the time pass quickly, you may consider watching our newly revised video a few hundred times on www.lubricheck.com.

Warmest regards,

We are happy to report that Lubricheck samples are now in the hands of over a dozen individuals and companies for testing. Amongst these are a buyer for a large online ‘gadget’ retailer, the buyer for one of the nations largest fleets of cars and trucks, a motor oil dealer with decades of experience in using commercial hand-held oil testers, potential Lubricheck investors, the oil testing lab mentioned in the last update, and individuals with extensive experience in direct sales of automotive products. Before we produce your Lubricheck, we will be certain that we have done all we can to catch any design problems.

We have already been getting very positive feedback. For example, yesterday a Lubricheck detected coolant leaks in 2 diesel trucks!

While this field testing is going on, we will soon finalize the circuit corrections needed to order additional final rev PCBs for testing before production quantities are ordered. Our first production run is getting much closer, but still several weeks out. We will let you know when a realistic ship date is determined.

It has been a good week for our team. Charles and Suman are well on their way to completing the calibration phase. This is a rather tedious process where various samples of new and used oil are tested on the new Lubricheck circuit board. The data from these tests then must be added to the code to assure the proper LED illuminates for a given oil condition. Then the code must be retested. It is not much fun, but very necessary.

We will let you know when we get into the next phase. When all testing has been completed and verified, we will be prepared to order production units to meet our commitments to you, our valued, appreciated backers.

Our suppliers estimate that it will take up to 12 weeks to produce the Lubricheck from the time we place our order. We hope to drop a few weeks of this lead time by carefully searching for faster delivery times on the longest lead time components.

Sorry we have missed a pre Christmas delivery!

Within a couple days we should be able to insert this code into the waiting pre-production circuit board assemblies, and begin the final testing needed before we can approve this design for a production run.

Thanks again for being so patient with us. We will issue more frequent updates as we get ever closer to a firm production date.

We have been holding off issuing this update until we could provide a firm commitment on when your shiny new Lubricheck oil tester would be shipped to you. That ship date is still not known, but too many weeks have slipped by, and we can no longer delay this update.

As you are aware, we had originally expected to ship finished product weeks ago. What we had not factored into our original schedule was lost time to factory scheduling conflicts, rejected PCB samples, Chinese customs delays, and a few weeks of unexpected travel demands on key personnel.

But now the good news!

The pre-production PCB assemblies FINALLY arrived from China to our office in Wisconsin a couple weeks ago.

Since then, the sensing portion of the circuit boards, (the most critical and challenging portion of this project) have been shown to function perfectly!

Programming is now over 50% complete,

This final programming and testing phase will take about 2 more weeks (assuming no problems are found)

Only after this final testing will we be able to schedule the production run. Our vendors have projected leadtimes of 8+ weeks on some components, so we are looking for alternative sources and considering paying some premium pricing to speed up delivery.

We will issue our next update when the programming and testing are complete. At that time we will have a much better idea of when production can actually occur.

Thanks again for your extraordinary patience! Please be assured we are doing everything we can to get this product into your hands at the earliest possible date.

Warmest regards

Thank you for your patience as you have quietly waited for us to ship your shiny new Lubricheck or Lubrichecks! We have been holding off publishing an update until we had more solid information from our factory. regarding lead times Those numbers came in yesterday. Here is where we stand today:

Final circuit board design ran a few weeks over our estimate, and was completed late July. (Suman did an amazing job fitting everything on there!)

A sample batch of circuit board assemblies were ordered in early August for final testing. We just learned today they will be shipped on Aug. 26th, (about 1.5 weeks later than promised).

Once we have those units, they will be thoroughly tested, and hopefully approved within a week or so of arrival.

Upon sample approval, a purchase order for the first production run will be sent to the factory. They estimate delivery in 6-7 weeks from the date of the PO.

Given all of the above, it is looking like it is possible we will be shipping in late October or early November.

We are very sorry for the delays, and hope that this late ship date does not dampen your enthusiasm for the Lubricheck, or us!

Warmest regards

PS: We wish to offer a special thanks to all of you who have helped us by completing our online survey. (see update # 16) The information has been extremely helpful as we develop our marketing plans. Among other things, we have learned our backers are bright, good looking people!

We have received a number of emails asking if the Lubricheck has been tested by a 3rd party, independent lab. Although to date, we have not had the budget to contract with an outside testing lab to verify our claims, we plan to do so as soon as we can afford it.

About 2 years ago, when we started this project, we purchased a $1,200 SKF Oilcheck TMEH-1 professional oil tester. We have used the test results from this hand held tester to compare with Lubricheck test results. The SKF tester claims a repeatability accuracy of 5% or less. Our Lubricheck results have shown better repeatability accuracy of much less than 5%. (Not bad for a $30 device! You save $1,170. For those of you that just purchased your very own TMEH-1, sorry!)

As a further cross check, we have submitted oil samples to Blackstone Labs, a professional oil testing service. These comparisons have also demonstrated a high consistency between the Lubricheck results and the Blackstone results, using the same used oil samples.

We hope you find this information helpful.

Warmest regards,

Charles, Suman and Chad

Lubricheck, a pocket sized, $30 engine tester, can detect engine problems in real time, at the car lot, by analyzing a few drops of oil from the dipstick. Owners of motorcycles, trucks, cars, ATVs, RVs, mowers, etc. may record their Lubricheck test results on Lubritrack Online to monitor their oil performance, determine an optimal time for an oil change, and track other maintenance tasks. Lubritrack analyzes the data over time and will warn users of developing problems before expensive repairs are needed. iPhone and Android users have the option of downloading a free ‘open source’ app to directly upload data to Lubritrack Online.

Used car shopping is a mixed bag. The thrill of finding that dream vehicle, combined with the potential agony of buying a ‘lemon’. But with used car prices rising sharply due to short supply and high demand, the cost of buying a vehicle with ‘pre-existing conditions’ has never been higher. Historically, we kick the tires, look knowingly under the hood, and check out the A/C and radio. Sadly, none of these tests will detect serious engine problems. But soon, for $30, you can have a powerful engine diagnostic tool in your pocket. With a few drops of oil from the dip stick, (see demo video) the Lubricheck will not only intimidate the seller, but may save you from an expensive mistake. A rating of 8-10 indicates worn out oil, (bad oil = poor maintenance). A flashing red LED suggests contamination from metal particles, excessive carbon, water or antifreeze leaks. (Big problems, back away from this car!)

After the car title is signed, and that sweet ride is yours, the Lubritrack app for iPhone or Android, will provide a convenient way to track the health and maintenance of all your cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, mowers, etc. Your data can be uploaded or manually entered to an account on Lubritrack Online. Here, emails or tweets can remind you to check your oil, change your filters, rotate your tires, etc. Subscribers to this service can also compare their vehicle and oil performance to other users. (Now here is the truly cool part…). Based on your data, (if your motor oil degrades at an unusual rate), the algorithms in Lubritrack will trigger a warning and suggest you have the engine checked out before serious damage occurs. Worn bushings or failed head gaskets may be lurking within.

Additionally, the Lubricheck will most likely help you stop wasting oil. If you are like most Americans, you have been programmed to change your oil every 3-5,000 miles. With modern engines and oil technologies, this proves to be much more frequent than needed, resulting in wasted time, money and natural resources.

WaveOn Technologies will be introducing the Lubricheck and Lubritrack later this summer. Those wishing to be the first on their block to own one may reserve it at Lubricheck’s page on Kickstarter.com before June 6th.

WaveOn Technologies’ newest gadget rates high with techies. The Lubricheck is the first consumer model oil tester, giving owners the data needed to safely extend oil change intervals on trucks, cars, ATVs, motorcycles or RVs. Like automotive testers used by NASCAR pit crews, the Lubricheck can detect oil contamination before it can cause serious engine damage.

The next time you change your oil you are probably going to do what most US motorists do, you will discard perfectly good motor oil. In these cases, “change” is not good, for you or the planet.

The common belief that oil must be changed every 3-5,000 miles is half a century old, and dates back to the 1960′s. Yes, the oil advice most of us adhere to is as old as the Beatles’ first visit to America. Music, cars and oil have changed dramatically since those days. Some new vehicles equipped with oil life monitoring systems are routinely going 10,000 to 20,000 miles or more before recommending an oil change. But in spite of dramatic technical advances in oil and engines, advice on oil changing remains the same old advice: Discard it, on the chance it is bad.

Oil life is determined by many factors, including synthetic versus standard oil, engine condition, engine oil capacity, weather conditions, and driving habits. Aside from sending oil samples to a testing lab, how can a driver know when their oil actually needs changing?

Enter Lubricheck, a reusable, credit-card sized tool for gadget lovers, easily kept in the car’s glove box along with the tire pressure gauge. With 4-5 drops of oil from the end of a dipstick, and the press of a button, Lubricheck instantly rates the oil on a scale of 1 to 10. A rating of 1-7 places it in the ‘OK’ green zone, an amber 8-9 in the ‘change soon’ zone, and a red 10 for ‘change now.’ Employing a combination of capacitive and resistive sensing, the Lubricheck will display a flashing red light if the oil sample is contaminated with antifreeze, water or metal. If acted upon, such an early warning can catch problems, like a leaky head gasket, before expensive repairs are needed. (A great tool to have in your pocket when shopping for a used car).

Owners of trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, mowers, etc. are empowered with Lubricheck feedback to decide for themselves if they want to extend their change intervals.

As an added service, oil data may be recorded on Lubritrack, an open source app for iPhone or Android phones, or available online at the Lubricheck website. Here, users can keep track of multiple vehicles. Customized reminders to check oil, change filters, rotate tires, etc. can be emailed to users. Data will also be available to compare their vehicles oil performance with that of others.

Lubricheck will sell for US$30. Production tooling is complete. Interested parties can reserve their own Lubricheck, and help fund production start-up by pledging their support on the Lubricheck page found on Kickstarter.com, or at Lubricheck.com

WaveOn Technologies, Inc. is a Minnesota corporation. Lubricheck technology is patent pending.

WaveOn Technologies introduces the first consumer model motor oil tester. With the Lubricheck, users can cut motor oil use in their gasoline or diesel powered truck, car, ATV, motorcycle or RV by over 50%. Fewer oil changes save money and time, cut dependence on foreign oil imports and reduce waste oil pollution. Like automotive testers used by NASCAR pit crews, the Lubricheck can detect oil contamination before it can cause serious engine damage.

The December 2006 issue of Consumer Reports stated, “Although oil companies and quick-lube shops like to promote this idea (that engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles), it’s usually not necessary. …. Some models now come with oil life monitors that alert the driver when the oil needs changing. Depending on driving conditions, these can extend change intervals to 10,000 or 15,000 miles.” While most Americans change their oil too frequently, many others lose track of when they last changed their oil, and end up damaging their engines with worn out, thick, broken-down oil. This is especially true with motorcycles and off road vehicles like lawn tractors, mowers,ATV s, etc.

The Lubricheck offers an inexpensive, simple solution to both types of vehicle owners. The Lubricheck is a $30, hand held electronic tester that can tell you the condition of your motor oil in cars, trucks, motor cycles, ATVs, mowers, etc. A few drops from the end of the dip stick, placed on a peanut-sized sensor grid, will result in a 1-10 rating of your oil. Much like a glucose tester can aid a doctor in understanding a patient’s health, the Lubricheck can monitor the health of an engine. If your oil contains metal, water or antifreeze, a flashing red light will warn the user it is time to have the engine checked by an auto repair professional, before serious damage occurs. The Lubricheck has compared very well with oil test results from a professional testing lab, and professional, $1000 plus hand-held oil testers like those used by NASCAR pit crews.

Oil change habits are based on oil industry advice dating back over 50 years. Oil companies and rapid oil change services have been understandably slow to inform consumers that this advice is no longer valid. Advances in oil chemistry, additives and engine design make it possible to run many motor oils for up to 20,000 miles between oil changes. Now more than ever, as oil has become scarce and expensive, it makes ecological and financial sense to get the most we can from our engine oil. Testing oil with Lubricheck will give peace of mind and reassurance to the user that they are getting what they paid for from their oil. Users will feel good about a reduced carbon footprint, helping to reduce foreign oil imports, and saving time spent on unnecessary oil changes while keeping more cash in their wallets.

In addition to offering the Lubricheck oil tester, WaveOn also introduces the LubriTrack system. This service, available on iPhone and iPad apps, smart phone apps, or online, will provide a central location for tracking the oil condition and maintenance of multiple vehicles. The user simply enters their oil change date and mileage, followed by the date, mileage and results of subsequent oil tests. The mileage and oil quality data will be displayed in graphical form. If the oil quality takes an unexpected turn for the worse, LubriTrack will alert you that your engine may need to be checked by a mechanic. If desired, LubriTrack will send email or text reminders to check the oil, other fluids, rotate tires, change filters, etc. In addition, users will be able to compare their oil test results with data from other ‘Lubricheckers’ to see what oils are lasting the longest, and how other vehicles like theirs are performing.

WaveOn Technologies Inc, a privately held Minnesota corporation, has taken the novel approach of ‘cloud funding’ the Lubricheck production start-up using kickstarter.com. Donors on this popular website are invited to pledge their support at levels they choose, ranging from a “thank you” for a $1.00 contribution, to 5 Lubrichecks plus other gifts for $250. Lubricheck technology is patent pending.
